Lydia Koros - Managing Partner
Lydia is a Kenyan national. Prior to setting up Progression Capital Africa she served as the Managing Director of Faulu Kenya Deposit Taking Microfinance Limited from Aug ‘05 until Mar ‘10. Under her leadership, Faulu became the first MFI to be licensed by the Central Bank of Kenya as a DTM. She was instrumental in spearheading the M-PESA mobile money transfer system pilot in Faulu Kenya and its utilization by Kenyan MFIs.
She has served as the Chairperson of the Association of MFIs in Kenya, chaired the task force set up by AMFI to lobby for the passing of the Micro finance Act and Regulations for Deposit-Taking MFIs as law. She successfully organized and chaired the Africa and Middle East Microcredit Summit held in Nairobi in April ‘10. Prior to entering the MFI sector, Lydia worked in Kenya Commercial Bank for over 18yrs in various capacities in the corporate and retail divisions of the Bank, including Head of Corporate Banking.
Lydia obtained her Bachelor of Commerce degree and an MBA degree in Strategic Management both from the University of Nairobi. She is an alumnus of both the Strathmore and the IESE Business Schools.
Andrej Machacek - Managing Partner
Andrej is a Slovakian and British national. Prior to setting up Progression Capital Africa he worked as an Investment Manager at Grassroots Capital, managing the US$120m Global Microfinance Equity Fund since 2008. Andrej was a member of the investment committee and the board of the AfriCap Microfinance Investment Company during AfriCap’s transition period between May ‘10 and Mar ‘11.
Before this Andrej spent 2 years at a venture capital incubator firm, assisting entrepreneurs in refining their business models and in helping them achieve commercial scale. As a Vice President in Deutsche Bank’s Global Markets division, Andrej spent 5 years working with the bank’s Capital Markets, Leveraged Finance, Financial Sponsors and Mergers & Acquisitions departments, providing the bank’s clients with traditional as well as structured equity and debt funding solutions through public as well as private capital markets and advising corporates on how to manage their foreign exchange, interest rate, commodity price and other balance sheet and P&L risk exposures.
Andrej obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Management from Balliol College, Oxford and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is an Open Society Foundation and Dulverton Trust scholar.
Simon Kariuki – Managing Partner
Simon is a Kenyan national. Prior to joining recently founded micro banking operations in KCB Bank group a leading commercial bank in East Africa with over 238 branches across 5 countries. Under his leadership KCB bank was declared the Best Micro Finance Bank in Kenya according to banking survey awards 2013. Prior to this Simon served as the Head of Micro Credit at Equity Bank , a world renowned Micro finance bank where he was instrumental in the institutions transformation from a micro finance institution to a micro finance Bank. Prior to that, Simon worked for the Co-operative Bank of Kenya in the Micro finance department based at 3 of its local branches gaining a crucial practical expertise interacting with microfinance clients and their unique financial characteristics and requirements.
Simon obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree from Kenyatta University and is a graduate of the prestigious Boulder Micro finance Institute based in Turin, Italy. He is also an alumnus of the School of Applied Micro finance, Mombasa (Kenya) and a UNDP accredited trainer of trainers in Women Entrepreneurship Development.
Samuel Kinyua - Finance and Administration Manager
Samuel Kinyua is a Kenyan national with wide range of experience in finance and accounting. Prior to joining Progression Capital Africa, he worked at KPMG, an audit firm, for close to 10 years in various capacities. He was in charge of the development, implementation and smooth running of accounting and financial system for effective reporting. He was involved in successful decentralisation of the accounting system through deployment of the professional accounting software across East Africa. Prior to joining KPMG, he worked with Mastermind Tobacco Company among other institutions.
He is a Bachelor of Commerce graduate and holds Masters in Business Administration (Finance) both from the University of Nairobi. He is a member of Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Kenya).
Keith Mulatya - Associate
Keith Mulatya is an associate with Progression having joined from the Transactions-Deals department of PriceWaterhouseCoopers Kenya. Prior to this, Keith worked in various positions in the Corporate Finance and Audit departments of Deloitte East Africa.
Keith is an alumnus of the University of Nairobi having graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce-Finance degree (First Class Honors). He is also an ACCA finalist and a CFA candidate.
Joan Gatuhi - Senior Analyst
Joan Gatuhi is a Kenyan national. Prior to joining in Sept ’13, she was a Research Assistant at Ocra Company Limited where she undertook various roles in research and project management. Previous to this, she was a Pensions Administrator at Alexander Forbes (K) Limited where she was in charge of pension scheme administration for a number of large pension funds.
Joan obtained her Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science from Jomo Kenyatta University and Agriculture and Technology, Diploma in Project Management from KIM and is currently a candidate in CFA Level 3.
Angela Mathu – Office Administrator
Angela is a Kenyan national. Prior to joining in Aug' 14, she worked at Commercial Bank of Africa in the Cash Management department. She has worked in various sectors and roles and this has nurtured skills in managing people while aiding the organization in achieving its vision.
Angela obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Kenyatta University.
